A consulting firm built on the legacy of Barry Johns Architects since its inception in 1981; we are an independent, Canadian private practice and design consultancy to other architectural firms and private clients.
An early succession plan yielded the inauguration of Stantec Architecture Ltd. in 1998 through an amalgamation of the original firm with two other practices to create the architectural division of a multi-disciplinary consultancy. After re-constituting as Barry Johns (Architecture) Limited in 2000, the firm also known as BJ(A)L merged with Group 2 Architecture Engineering in 2007.
Barry Johns (Architecture) Limited remains proudly associated with Group 2 in Edmonton, Red Deer and Calgary. Through this association, Barry Johns (Architecture) Limited retains its identity as a private practice with Barry Johns also serving as Executive Director of Design with Group2 .
The firm has been broadly engaged in the profession of architecture in a series of significant, award winning collaborations including separate joint ventures with several other architects or architectural firms including Ted Cavanagh in Halifax, Wood O’Neill O’Neill Architects and Wensley Webster Fry Rodrigues Architects in Edmonton, Smith Carter in Winnipeg, Jim Hancock in Vancouver and most notably a very successful association with Gibbs Gage Architects in Calgary. Recent collaborations also with Group2, include Busby Perkins + Will of Vancouver.
The underlying quest of the firm, regardless of its configuration over the years has been its ongoing pursuit of excellence.
