Timms Collection Centre

A museum and sunken sculpture court creates an open public face to the University of Alberta campus, in this project proposal. An internal ‘zone of safety’ differentiates the environmental and security needs of the ‘back of house’ from the more gregarious public domain. The galleries, under huge mansard roofs enable oversize displays and controlled daylighting while deferring to a rigorous structural order. They are ‘cocooned’ from the severe external climate by each component that wraps around them.
